What Is a Savior (or Messiah) Complex?

The Savior Complex, also known as the Messiah Complex, is a psychological phenomenon in which an individual believes they are destined to save or rescue others. This belief often comes from a deep-seated need for validation, a desire to feel important, or a subconscious attempt to compensate for feelings of inadequacy or low self-worth. People with a Savior Complex tend to: Feel a strong need to help others: They may go to great lengths to rescue or assist others, often at their own expense. Have an inflated sense of responsibility: They may feel personally responsible for the well-being or happiness of others.
